Baby Walking Vacation Story

I was recently vacationing at an all-inclusive resort on the Pacific coast of southern Mexico.

A beautiful location with breathtaking sunsets. I was relaxing in the café, soaking in some air conditioning and a cold adult beverage.

I look to my right and see the most precious and loving family moment ever.

There was a young, successful-looking European father who was in the middle of the room helping to encourage his baby boy in learning how to walk.

The courageous youngster was on his feet trying to move quicker than his little legs would carry him.

It looked like he was a cartoon of someone running in place but not moving before zooming off. They were the center of attention for everyone in the café of course.

It was a postcard-worthy moment to see the bonding of a loving family.

Dad took great care guiding his son, assisting while moving forward. Mom looked on with a glowing admiration that filled the room.

Becoming a brand new walker, he was beaming with nothing but smiles.

The way dad helped, he was holding his son’s hands, his little arms raised above his head.

The father was walking forward with holding arms up. Baby was getting used to mixing balance and the momentum going forward.

The toddler’s chubby little legs jumping forward planting one foot in front of the other.

Dad was behind guiding the mini hiking session holding up the arms over the head for support.

He got excited and let out shrieks of joy to express his new accomplishment. It was one of the cutest things I’ve ever witnessed.

A concrete foundation of a loving family building happy memories.

Watching the father and son bonding activity while a proud mother looked on was a beautiful sight to see.

One day you’ll wake up and realize your baby is a full grown teenager. And just ate all the groceries in the house you just bought 2 days ago.

Enjoy them while they’re young and super adorable. One day, poof, it will all only be a memory.

As your newborn continues to graces the world with their presence, the first 6 months are an exciting (and nerve-racking) time.

During this stage when we speak, they’re able to listen. They also cry to get attention and discover their hands and feet for the first time.

They’ll even recognize and respond to their name.

  • Development: Baby shoes size 1 = 0-6 months old

  • Language: Cooing at least one syllable, spontaneous babble, begin making non-crying sounds

  • Physical: Responds to faces/objects as they move, plays with objects, raise themselves up laying on tummy

For a few recommended activities, hold baby often and talk to them during this time.

Give them interesting things to look at and provide washable and safe toys to suck on and play with.

To encourage rolling over for better views, place baby toys like a baby bouncer near and above your baby.

A baby walking around the house means you must have your head on a swivel at all times. Get ready out there soldier. It’s all a matter of time now.

During this phase be mindful of them using objects correctly, such as drinking from a cup.

They look for a more intense exploration of objects like shaking, dropping and throwing. They imitate gestures and recognize named images in pictures.

  • Development: Baby shoes size 2 = 7-12 months old

  • Language: Increased attention to speech, responds to “no,” says “mama” and “dada”

  • Physical: Get into sitting position solo, momentarily stand and walk a few steps without support, can finger feed themselves

New moms can help assist in their child’s growth and development at this time. Engage in the tactile and visual senses by playing with bubbles for example.

Practice cognitive development and bonding by singing nursery rhymes and clapping along. Expand the senses further with fun outdoor adventures.

Baby Shoes Size 3

Babies at 13-18 months will show a couple big milestones.

They will be able to understand and follow simple directions.

So start their new career in helping with household chores (kidding, not kidding).

They’ll look directly at the person talking to them.

By this stage they become very inquisitive and are able to identify objects in pictures.

  • Development: Baby shoes size 3 = 13-18 months old

  • Language: Say “hi” and “bye” & use expressions like “uh-oh”

  • Psychological: Likes cuddles, being read to, gets upset with separation from parents

  • Physical: Sits without help, stands, walks, scribbles with crayons

Some recommended activities moms can try include: reading (to help recognize objects and animals) and playing with musical toys.

Playing with toys like blocks can increase fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. Encourage sitting on the ground and exploring the nearby environment.

Do Baby Walkers Affect Baby Learning How to Walk?

Some people believe baby walkers are not recommended for youngsters ready to cruise around.

Whether you use one or not when you get baby learning how to walk, it’s a personal preference. If you do get one, make sure the majority of weight sits only on the balls of the feet.

Balance between using a baby walker and letting babies teach themselves is an effective strategy. It builds confidence and experience.

Which is the best baby walker or jumperoo? There are plenty of high quality options available online or at local stores for those on a budget.

Do baby walkers impede growth and development?

No, not if they’re used in short sessions. There is no peer reviewed evidence that proves short term use of baby walkers is harmful to baby growth.

These help to hold up the body weight of the baby. They get baby used to the idea of walking around by themselves.

Keeping baby in a walker for really long periods of times is not good.

Muscles in the legs and feet can atrophy if not used regularly. Don’t use for extended periods of time. Aim for 20 minute sessions.
